A message from her!
Hi there! Poonam this side! And here’s my story!
This was during the year 2000 when I was studying for Bachelors in Commerce and in parallel also pursuing my skill sets in Computers.
We had internship programs from the Computer institute and a particular USA-based MNC intrigued me. I wanted to do my internship the moment I heard about it!
I informed the coordinator that I want to apply for this company.
But, things don’t always go as you want, right?
My friends strongly believed I wasn’t qualified enough and I shouldn’t apply for that company. “They won’t select you” was all I heard whenever I spoke about this.
However, I was determined to go ahead and apply,
I asked myself: What’s the worst that could happen? They would reject me.
But, what if I was selected? I would get into my dream company!
This thought pushed me to pursue my passion.
I insisted my coordinator send my profile to this company. After explaining how the institute can benefit if I got into the company, he finally agreed and sent my profile to the company.
After a few days, they called me for an interview.
I was able to answer most of the questions they asked me. And after a couple of days, I received a message saying they have put my selection on hold.
My friends came in to validate their opinions! When they said: “Look we told you, you will not be selected, we were right!”, I felt devastated. For a moment, I gave in to their opinions and felt like a failure.
My coordinator overheard our conversation and reassured me that your selection is on Hold and not rejected. “You still have chances. The moment they have an open position they will call you, ”, he said. He also recommended I follow my reiki practice.
That boosted my confidence and I continued with visualization and reiki.
2 weeks later, I got a call from the company asking me to join them.
I worked with them for almost 15 years and then moved to another organization.
In spite of being a commerce graduate, I was able to have a successful career in Information Technology.
What’s should be your takeaway?
There will always be people around who would try to pull you down, demotivate you and stand as barriers between you and your dreams. But, your focus shouldn’t be on “them”.
Instead, you keep working on yourself, towards your goals and eventually, you will end up finding that one person who motivates you and helps you transform your life.
